Ragdoll Breed

These cats are playful and super-friendly indoor animals that will make you smile and laugh at each look they give you. They are naturally radiant creatures and always make people want to pick them up and hug them. Ragdolls are larger in size than most cats when fully grown and are covered in a huge coat of thick white fur, that have coloured points depending on the type of Ragdoll. These cats will win you over with their quick charms and their great, staring blue eyes.

Personality

Ragdolls are quite different to other felines, acting almost like a dog in some situations more than a cat. These cats are quite needy at young, but with enough time well spent with them, they can become loyal companions and come to trust strongly within their owners. The characteristics that are like a dog are things such as :

They will follow you around where ever you go, they retrieve toys and other small objects if thrown, they are extremely loyal, devoted to their owners and wanting to be where ever they are.

Ragdoll cats' temperament as such that they are an easy-going, relaxed and loving type of cat, which has a 'go with the flow' attitude. They're not fussed with other people holding them or touching them, and when held they become limp relaxing all their muscles, which is how they acquired their name Ragdoll.

Behaviour

The Ragdoll's behaviour is again like the Personality, half dog and half cat. They have some of the common cat attributes like scratching carpets and furniture, sleeping all day and playing at night and also hiding in small enclosed spaces. Their more dog-like actions are such as chasing after small things like scrunched up paper, laying on their back to rubbed on their stomach, and always wanting to be around people, even if they're not the owner! As a kitten they have different behavioral patterns though, such as always exploring new parts of the house, chasing and biting after their own tails and chasing after small insects like flies and centipedes. The behaviour of the Ragdoll can vary though from cat to cat, but most of them are bubbly, energetic creatures that just want to hang out and play fetch with you.

Physical Characteristics

Ragdolls are larger than the average feline, being bulkier, heavier and bigger. They have a muscular body with large hind quarters, the males weigh anywhere between 12 to 20 pounds, and the female 10 to 15 pounds. They all have bright, blue eyes and pleasant facial features. Their ears lean a bit forward and are large and rounded.

Ragdolls have long fur around their necks and under the for legs that bunch up together. They also have a moderately long tail, that is extremely bushy and furry, and their hair seems to almost match the feel of rabbits fur. Depending on which season it is Ragdolls will malt their hair, a considerable amount in summer but a lot less in winter. It is advised to groom your Ragdoll occasionally to keep their coats neat and clean. All Ragdolls have white fur but with different coloured points, (such as nose, ears, paws, tail). There are three different types of patterns but there are also six different types of colours. The three patterns are:

-Pointed: The only the points are strictly coloured and nothing else.

-Mitted: All the points are coloured, but the paws, abdomen and chin are white as well. This type also has a coloured stripe down the belly.

-Bicolour: Extreme amounts of white all over the body, with white legs and a white inverted "V" on the face.

How much are Ragdoll cats?

The prices vary quite greatly here in Melbourne, Austalia. While the average male Ragdoll kitten (with papers) can cost up to 500AUD and the female 600AUD from the breeders, you could be looking at forking out approximately 1200AUD for a male kitten at the pet shops. The price difference is astronomical, therefore it is important to make enquiries, do some research, google 'ragdoll cats for sale' in your area before buying one.

What a fantastic hub, Elzabrad! Welcome to Hub Pages, I look forward to reading more from you. Ragdoll kittens are adorable, I didn't realize they had a more "dog-like" personality... very sweet!

I love Ragdolls. There are so adorable and communicative. Our Ragdoll loves to follow our kids everywhere in the house. You're right - in some ways they behave like dogs. And I would know as I have had 9 cats in my lifetime and none of the cats behaved like our gorgeous Ragdoll!

We have had a rag doll cat for 16 months. Snow-white , was 7 months old when we got her. We think she is the most stunning cat we have ever seen. We got her from the SPCA. So true, all that you described, they are very loving and playful and dog like. We love her to pieces, and she does go limp when she doesn't want to be held. She has become a great part of our family.
